- Perceptions of metal (non-metalheads feel free to vote)
- 2007-06-08 00:51:30
It's too late now, whoever wrote this started with a group of songs and is just whittling them down. But it would be good to have one with a bit more variety. And a bit more true metal
The real answer
There's only 2 bands on this list that shoud have gotten any votes. A lot of those bands are hugely important to metal... Metallica, Maiden, Death, Morbid Angel, Pantera... but... Black Sabbath invented metal. People will argue, but they are wrong. But it wasn't REALLY metal, not as we know it today. Judas Priest re-invented metal. I don't think they are a particularly awesome band - just a likeable band with great guitar solos. But lets think about this for a minute. How many metal bands that have truly made their mark on the world have had 1 guitarist? I can think of 3: Sabbath, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera. That is what Priest started. That is what Priest is: 2 guitarists. Every metal band you love: Meallica, Maiden, Killswitch, Mastodon, Slayer, Slipknot, Mercyful Fate, it doesn't matter what styles you like, every metal band has 2 guitarists, because it's what makes metal metal. RATM, well they were something different. And Dimebag was just $%!@ing specil. But other than that, metal is about 2 guitars, so Priest should be fisrt on that list. It disgusts me that they aren't.
Yeah Arch Enemy would probably have come second or third if you'd put them in. But Opeth all the $%!@in way!
influence
If it wasn't for Black Sabbath, metal wouldn't exist. And if it wasn't for Downing and Tipton, metal as we know it today wouldn't exist. Get your priorities right people.
So why did Metallica get a 75% vote and Slayer only 14%? Why did Cradle of Filth kick Mayhem's arse? Why did anyone vote for Kerrang. I'm beginning too think that the world has run out of 'true metalheads'
