Electoral College

A test of your knowledge about the electoral college.
Which answer best describes what you know about the electoral college?
I am an expert
I have a good grasp of how it works.
I get the general idea of how it works.
All I know is that it has something to do with the presidential election.
I have heard of it but I don't know what it is.
The electoral huh?
Which answer best describes your opinion of the electoral college?
It is an awful and elitist way to choose a president.
I don't like it because I want my vote to be counted directly.
I don't think it really influences who becomes president.
I have never even noticed that it was taking place, that is how little it matters.
I don't know much about it, but I trust the process works.
I am okay with it.
I like it because it is traditional and comfortable.
I think it is a sound system of checks and balances.
I think it is a brilliant way to make sure we get things right.
I think that the electoral college:
Makes my vote for president count more
Makes my vote for president count less
Makes my vote for president count the same as it would without the electoral college
I know how my state chooses its electors
True
False
Why do you think that the constitution specifies that all electors cast their vote on the same day?
To get it overwith already.
So that the electors know ahead of time when to assemble and cast their vote.
So that electors from one state would not be influenced by electors from another.
To keep the process moving forward.
So that states know the deadline by which they have to choose electors.
Other.
Why do you think that we have a general election, a delay, and then the electoral college?
So that if the winner of the electoral vote dies before he is sworn in, the electoral college can do something about it.
So that the party machines have more control over who is president than the electorate.
Because the people ultimately are not trusted to choose their president on their own.
So that if something awful is suddenly discovered about the winner of the popular vote, the electoral college can pick someone else.
It is a catch-all process to handle various unforseen events that could happen after the election.
To prevent a demogague from being elected president.
Because of lingering fears of a monarchy taking over.
To add another check and balance to the process.
