U.S. foreign policy contributed to the events that led up to the attack that occurred in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001. I feel the people of the U. S. need to know more about the underlying causes, and that we need to know more about the whole story behind this situation to make informed decisions.

If the United States retaliates with agression against people who were not involved with terrorist attacks, it will only increase the likelihood of further terrorism; in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind." Most religions of the world have some form of the Golden Rule, and practising this wisdom is particularly crucial now.

The people of the United States should move away from reliance on fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources like solar, hydrogen and zero point "Tesla" (e.g. scalar field) techologies. The time has never been better for our government to release suppressed information that could solve the world's energy problems.

After listening deeply to the voices of people outside the US, particularly in Middle East countries such as Afghanistan, we should implement more humanitarian aid based on the real needs and priorities of masses instead of increased military presence.

The basic spirit of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights is the longing of each soul for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. At heart, most citizens of the U. S. wish to contribute to a truly free and democratic society and are willing to generously and altruistically contribute to a world that has the opportunities and abundance that are predominant in the U.S. If we emphasize the "olive branch" instead of the "arrows" this will promote lasting peace throughout the world.

Instead of demonizing fanatics and terrorists, which are in every country, it would be more effective to look at the causes of our own fanaticism and terrorism. For example, the "School of the Americas" in Georgia is reputed to have trained numerous terrorists (such as Manuel Noriega) at U. S. taxpayer expense. We need to dismantle the machinery of terror in this country first and set a good example before any efforts to assist other countries will be taken seriously or be seen as genuine.

Increased military spending, including space weapons, would not have prevented what occured on September 11. The U.S. needs to dramatically decrease, not increase spending to assure sustainable world peace, and focus a sensible budget on urgent human and environmental crises.

The major television, radio, print networks and most other media sources are not giving a complete picture of the underlying causes of terrorism. Journalists of all kinds have a responsibility to assist with solving the worlds problems by providing a fair and accurate picture of the world, just as each citizen has the responsibility to educate himself or herself to understand how their lives affect the lives of others, and respond from conscience. Most people in the U. S., as well as the world, want peace, but that is not what is portrayed by the vast majority of the media, which does a dis-service by under-reporting what is in the hearts of the people.

I realize that what I do every day, moment to moment in my actions, words, thoughts and feelings either contributes to a world at peace or a world at war. I recognize my responsibility to make wise choices, vote with my pocketbook as well as my ballot and to do whatever I can to create the world I wich to see - within myself, my family, my community, and the planet.
