What do you know about the Knights Templar

I'm writing a research paper for a college class and I'm just curious as to how many people know anything about the Knights Templar and what they think happened to them.
Have you ever heard of the the Knights Templar? Or the "Poor Knights of Christ"/"Order of the Temple of Solomon"/etc. ?
