Lack of New Orleans Help = America Stretched Too Thin

Rising oil prices are a global phenonomon, not a US exclusive one - and no, I don't accept American's complaining about it being $1-2 per gallon being legit because prices over here have been in excess of £0.70p per litre for ages. Sorry, you still have ludicrously cheap gas.

However, the main reason I'm posting this is that in your intro you make it sound like you still think that what went wrong with the NO evacuation is incompetence. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be. Read through http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/006754.html#006754 to see what I mean about this.

Oh, I've been pretty angry about this all day...

The reason I'm not taking the actual poll is that glancing through you've made it American specific, so not being American I won't bother voting.

Several factors don't apply in Europe as they do here

No real public transportation infracsture outside of large urban areas such as NY, Chicago, or Washington D.C.

Every try public transport in Phoenix or Houston? It's a joke. Atlanta ain't much better.

Also, the distances people drive (due the the suburbia+ strip mall style developement we got here) means everybody drives alot just to get to work, and errands are miles away.

YOu can't just stop off at the dry cleaners, the meat market, the vegetable market, the drug store, on your way home from the Metro like in Paris or London darlin'.

Besides, the GREATEST profits of these companines have is when they price gouge, it's how they pay their lobbyists...
