There once was a man named Oedipus rex, You may have heard about his odd complex, his name appears in Freud's index, because he loved his mother

His rivals used to say quite a bit, that as a monarch he was most unfit, but through it all they had to admit, that he loved his mother

He loved his mother as he loved no other, his daughter was his sister and his son was his brother

when he found what he had done, he tore his eyes out one by one, a tragic end to a loyal son, who loved his mother

You may've also heard of a woman named Electra. She too has a complex named after her.

She loved her father and was enraged when her step-mother killed her father. So her and her brother killed her step-mother.

Her complex deals more with the whole "seeing your same-sex parent as a rival" aspect, whereas Oedipus' deals with the "desire to have sex with your parent of the opposite sex" part. Neither really follows the original myths too closely (Oedipus didn't know the queen was his mother until years later and Electra didn't hate her mother because she saw her as a rival for her father's love), but they're the closest to the symptoms of the complexes.

And I wouldn't take everything Freud said too seriously. Most of his theories are no longer relevent (in fact, Oedipus and Electra Complex are some of the few things related to him that modern psychologists still currently use).
