I've heard several stories now (not just here) about kids ranging from second grade to age fifteen whose teachers wouldn't let them go to the bathroom, and they ended up wetting themselves (or worse.) If you know you're about to have an accident, just get up and go to the bathroom anyway. Yes, that will probably get you in trouble, but just think: What's worse, that, or wetting yourself in class?

At my school, the buses leave less than a few minutes after school ends. No time for bathroom breaks, or anything. I had to pee really bad emergency and then some, but, no time. All the way home, the pressure was unbearable and I was afraid I'd go in my pants any second, but finally, I get to the house okay. I'm practically jumping up and down and squirming. Finally, I get inside, and have to walk slowly to keep my muscles clenched. I'm in the hall on my way to the bathroom when I feel that I'm losing control, and I completely panicked as I started to wet myself. I couldn't stop it and was too shocked to even move, and all I could do was stand there in shock as I peed in my jeans. By the time I was finally able to stop, my pants and the floor were soaked. I felt like I was about five years old again. This happened when I was sixteen. A girl, about sixteen or seventeen (well, she was in one of the same high-school class as I was) once told me about having wet herself in that class. It was embarrasing to her but not the end of the world.

Everyone has at least one accident after they're 'too old to.' It happens to plenty of 20- and 30-year-olds. There's teachers that won't let you go, times when you don't have time to stop, long lines at restrooms, rollercoaster rides, buses or train trips, traffic jams, people making you laugh or tickling you at the wrong time, being startled by something, or you're ready to go but can't get your zipper unstuck and now that you're in front of the toilet, you can't stop it (also happened to me once, but I didn't totally flood my jeans like that other time) or a variety of reasons. You don't have to be a baby or have some kind of condition wrong with you to have an accident. In fact, if anyone hasn't, then either it's a miracle or it just hasn't happened to them yet. Yes, that includes every single one of the kids laughing at you when you have an accident yourself. That includes the parent who's spanking you or yelling at you. It's normal. It's awfully humiliating for the moment, maybe even for a few days, but it's not the end of the world. Eventually, people will forget. Most people will feel sorry for you more than anything. The ones laughing probably have never seen it happen to anyone before, and it's more surprise than making fun of you. People who are already inclined to make fun of you will laugh at you about it for days and days later, but don't pay them any attention. They're not worth it. These things happen, and the best thing to do is to try to tatke it in stride.
