Another comment: my dad told me one time that he and his brother and sister all got it from their dad, my grandpa, with a rubber hose and that lots of farmers where they grew up in Pennsylvania used to use rubber hoses. So some teachers used a rubber hose in school, too, and he said you just never knew when a teacher had a rubber hose curled up in his pocket or her pocket book or desk drawer, ready to lick you with it.

Dad said one of his friends was messing around in gym class one day and didn't stop even though the teacher called him off several times. The teacher finally made everyone stand in a big circle out on the soccer field, and then he went over to the boy, grabbed him by his upper arm, pulled him out into the middle of the circle, told him to pull down his gym shorts, and pulled a rubber hose out of his pocket and licked the guy right there on the soccer field with his gym shorts down. Dad said his jock didn't do anything to shield him from the hose, and it didn't take long until the kid was crying like a 12-year old boy. He must have been maybe 14 or 15 when he got hosed out there, but it hurt so bad that it must have really done the job. Dad said that was the end of ANY kind of horsing around in gym class for the rest of the year!!

Dad told me Grandpa's rubber hose was about 2' long, and he held it so about 6" of the two loose ends would lick your butt. He said it gave you hellish, bitting stings that hurt really bad and you cried really hard because you just couldn't stand it. AND he said you got hose marks that stayed on your butt for several days until they gradually went away. He said Grandpa made a point of spreading the licks around, so you ended up with hose marks all around your butt and your butt hurt from one side to the other.

He said it was pretty common to see guys in the locker room or shower with hose marks, and you just knew what had happened. He said he never teased guys about it, because he just knew how bad it hurt when that kid got hosed and got those marks, and it really wasn't funny.

I have a cousin who goes to a school where they use the paddle, and he told me one time that if they hear some kid getting it, you could hear the licks, then after about two or three licks you could hear the kid start to cry and soon start SCREAMING because of how bad it hurt, and that the licks didn't stop right away after the kid was screaming, either. But he told me he though it was O.K., because if you do something that deserves the paddle, then you really outta get what you deserve and that that is O.K. justice. He said the school would really settle down for WEEKS after you heard some kid screaming becuase of how the paddle hurt. So he said it helped the whole school shen some kid got his butt licked.

He told me that after they started having gym class where they had to change clothes in the locker room, they usually got paddled in the locker room, too, and at that point you started pulling down your pants and shorts and getting the paddle STRAIGHT TO YOUR BUTT!!! He told me one of his friends got it like that from a paddle made of some kind of plastic stuff called lexan and with holes in it, and he said it was like FIRE on your butt after about 6 licks and that it absolute HELL by the time it was over. You made sure you didn't do that again!!

So he told me he actually thinks a paddle in school is good, even the one they started getting in middle school with holes in it. He said it works!

Wow! I' leaving for college next week to take a music major, but I'm also considering becoming a pastor. You sure don't expect to learn theology on a spanking discussion list, but I gotta thank Bill for some real points I never considered about theology related to punishment. Yeah, the Good News of God's grace only makes sense when you also know about sin and the punishment due for breaking the Law. So maybe in a way getting it from your dad is sorta parallel to God's punishment for sin -- and thus the News IS Good about God's grace.

I got it really bad from my dad when I did something that deserved it, but Bill sounds like my dad. Whenever I got the paddle -- yeah, one of those miserable lexan padddles, and yeah, Dad's also has holes in i!!! -- Dad would help me get over it and then often do something really nice. I play the cello, pretty well, too, and Dad plays the piano, and sometimes that night or the next day he'd ask me if we could play some stuff for a while and just have fun making music together.

I can't imagine spanking a kid and making him cry like that, but maybe when you become a dad you have a different atittude and you do make yourself do it.

I'm 17 and about to leave for college. I always hated getting spanked, but I've come to realize that it was for my own good, and I'll probably do it, too, some day when I get married and have kids.

You can't punish yourself. I tried several times, and it just does not work. You need it from someone else who takes charge and does not stop when it starts to hurt more than you can stand. Ask your rents to do it, or get a close friend to give it to you, and tell them NOT to stop the licks until you have as many licks as it took to make you start crying. If it doesn't hurt enough, it's not gonna help you.
