I want to thank everyone who took the time to answer and especially those who posted messages and allowed me to correspond personally. I appreciate your advice, but too much time may have passed for us to take on this lifestyle, despite its apparent benefits to those who practice it.

We did discuss the subject, although I spoke of it in the third person. I asked her if she had been spanked as a child. I knew she had but used the question to get a conversation going. She was raised in a male-led home which may surprise you. DD was not practiced. Her mother's response to her misbehaviors was usually "Wait 'til your father gets home." His tool of choice was either the belt or an old piece of baseboard trim left over from when they built their house. I then went on to ask if she knew that some people believed that wives should be spanked on into their adulthood for discipline. Her response was a lot more good-natured than I'd expected. She said something along the lines of: "Well, it didn't work when I was a kid. I was always the headstrong, creative one. It probably wouldn't work now." I was expecting something a lot more vehement.

Anyway, I have asserted myself as the leader around here, and told all of the females in this house what is unacceptable behavior. Something that has modified my wife's behavior more than anything else is my constant pointing out, and her finally believing, that our teenage daughter's often terrible treatment of her boyfriend comes from watching my wife. She suddenly became a lot more affectionate and accommodating.

There are a couple more realizations that I have made personally regarding myself that have helped. I finally got a health issue under control that was affecting our sex life. Alright, I have high blood pressure. Once my doctor got my medicines right and that didn't do the trick, he put me on Cialis. I have the "response" to thought and external stimulus that I had when I was 18 along with the stimina. She's sort of been too busy to cause me trouble. I also have been investing in sexy costumes and lingerie in her size. She's a little overweight and I think the realization that I want to see her dressed that way, and that I will buy the stuff myself, has helped with the negativity and reassured her that I still see her "that way".

I am not completely shutting the door on this, just putting it to bed for now. I appreciate the offers to receive email from her, but getting her to send them would be a whole other story. Again, thank you all for responding and helping me understand something that I have to admit, seemed a little bizarre at first. Thanks, Lucy. The funniest thing is that except for the strife caused by her resentment of me taking care of my ailing mother, which I describe in a reply to you MIL, I've usually enjoyed her stubborn side, (and the way it acts as a counter to mine!) However, there are times when harsh words get used by both sides and we don't speak to each other for days. That is what I would like to put a stop to. Jim

I envy your situation. My own mother, God rest her soul, had emotional problems from the time of my father's passing, four months after my wife and I were married, until her passing 18 years later. My wife resented the time necessary to take care of my mother, which was substantial, and as only child, all on me. Perhaps if I had known of this way back then, her attitude would have been much different. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Kate, It was reading the results and messages of your poll, and your 31 yr old DIL's blog that peaked my interest in this subject. Most of what I have read comes from the LDD blog and has to do with DD within a married relationship. How does the hierarchy in your situation work?

From what I've researched on the subject, it is usually the wife who comes to the husband asking for this arrangement. Any suggestions how to "put the bug in her ear" so to speak?
