Web site called Spanked Celebrities at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Agency/7171/celebs.htm
and similar one at: http://sfrsite.topcities.com/celebs1.htm
In these sites, information is given about various female celebrities (Dolly Parton, Hillary Clinton, etc.) about their childhood "bringings up," discipline used, and other little tidbits. It runs a gamit. Unfortunately it deals only with female celebrities (probably for the male domination over female crowd--perhaps for those who think spanking or seeing a girl/woman spanked is a sexual fantasy. For me, it's just interesting information about how people were raised.
On one episode of "Mama's Family": Mama(Vicky Lawrence) was taking care of a boy (say 12-14 years old) who was a great big brat--to say the least. The boy would not do what he was told, threw temper tantrums, among other problems.
His parents came home. Mama was trying to get him bent over so she could spank him. Normally, he wasn't spanked by his mother or father, but the "Straw that broke the camel's back" for the father was that the son had kicked him on his leg--the leg that was in a cast--the father was walking with crutches.
Mama had the boy bent over, the father said that the boy was in a good position for a man-to-man talk and proceeded to spank him--open hand on the butt (through the pants--not bare butt). The camera turns away as the father administers the whacks (though we can hear them) and the boy yells out in pain. Mama says, "You missed a spot!" Another one. Three swats are heard before the show goes to a commercial.
One more thing: there are plenty of adult actors and actresses in Hollywood whom I would classify as brats that are far worse than Malcolm or his brothers. Should we spank them too?
I think Martha has an obsession for Malcolm (Frankie Muniz)and his butt. I think she just wants to spank it because she doesn't know of any other way to honor or pay respect to a person's butt. She is obsessed with trying to give Malcolm a spanking--even though his mother (and show producers) did not deem it necessary to go that far. Their opinions should be respected. Martha doesn't seem to respect their opinions. I think she is more of a brat than anything I ahve seen of Frankie or his TV brothers. I also don't think Martha understands young men--their vivacity, energy, uppitiness, testerone, go-get-em-type attitude. This is the way young men are supposed to be! How can you punish a man for doing what he is supposed to be doing? Perhaps we should spank girls when they show signs of having PMS!
Frankie is a fine young man. Spanking? NO. Perhaps help in channeling all that energy into appropriate causes and places would be more helpful.
One person responding to this poll mentioned "hating stinky little boys." How about stinky little girls? Like those in the orphanage in "Annie"? Remember Miss Hannigan singing: "Little girls, little girls...[sic] I'm surrounding by little girls." She wanted a man to nibble on her ear, perhaps not having a love in her life was why she was the way she way. What about those little girls? What about their sadness and sense of loss of having lost their parents?
There is a lot more to helping children (both boys and girls) grow and mature. Spanking can be good sometimes; but there are other methods that can be far more effective.
No, Malcolm is doing just fine without them!!
I think that the Proverbs mention of the rod was figurative. I have seen and/or heard about children in the church getting spanked by their parents, and there is a wide variety of methods--even within the same family.
Switches, paddles, straps, hands, belts, shoes, hair brushes, boards, boat oars.
It sometimes depended on the offense and what was available. Still, in pentecostal-type churches, spanking (regardless of method or tool)is rigoruously enforced.
