Posted in Changes in PE lessons over the years (UK boys/men) on 2008-08-20 14:14:06

I'm still at school as well, we have two lessons of PE a wekk and sometimes it'll be indoor and sometimes it'll be outdoor. Our lasses are segragated apart from the rare occasion when it rains heavily and the girls are indoors and we have to join them but that only happens once or twice a year. Outdoors we can either wear a t-shirt and shorts, or we can wear the school tracksuit. Trainers have to be worn. Indoors, the same rules apply only you can participate in bare feet if you wish. That's what I always do ;). About half of the class do indoor lessons in bare feet, and there'sa lunchtime club in the sports hall, playing Dodgeball and nearly everyone goes barefoot to that. It's always good fun. I do Drama in bare feet as well, what about you?

That happened to us when I was doin my 1st PE lesson... we were all in the hall and we had to sit with our feet together stickin out the teacher looked at your soles to see if the trainers had any studs on them or if they were dirty if they did - you went barefoot! I was one of the unlucky ones...

Thanks for the advice and it turns out he was actually had verrucas and wasn't even allowed to take his socks off. he got them a week after the summer holidays began.

So, have you got any questions for me?

Hi John, that's cool about the flooring.

For Drama in our school we do it in a Drama/Dance Studio, it's always very dusty and there's a conservatory adjoined to it. (Very cold!!!)

For PE, we have a gym hall again very cold and very dusty. WE do GYmnastics and Dance and some other sports in there too.

We also have a leisure centre (open to the public) on site so we are allowed to use it all the time. The massive sports hall is air-conditioned and the floor is insulated so it is encouraged to be barefoot. (There's also markings on the floor like yours.)

Can I ask you something?

I had a mate sleep round the other night, so I went barefoot to bed but he remained in socks. (He didn't even take off anything except shoes). I felt weird and I wanted to ask him to remove socks but didn't want to be forward. He never cares in Drama or PE. Always tries to avoid it though...

Hi, thanks agian for replying and no I'm not a barefooter I just enjoy it in Drama and PE.

Your PE kit is the same as mine, apart from the socks part we're not allowed them. When did you start barefooting in PE/Drama. For Drama we were made to from the beginning but in PE I only started during Basketball when I had forgotten my trainers. I only go barefot in the Sports Centre (We have a leisure centre on-site) as it is air-conditioned and the floor is warmed-up. I sometimes go barefoot in the cold, dusty gym but my feet get dirty in there so I tend not to bother.

Why do you have to go barefoot in Drama? And what are the floors like for both Drama and PE?
