i think the ban is absurd. who were they hurting? themselves? the gymnastics organization? their country? probably not--so who cares? they should be reinstated with full honors.
========== In Reply To ========== My low temperature range depends on moisture and duration of exposure. I can tolerate near 0 degrees F for short times on dry ground. Hiking for long periods on wet ground can raise the low up to 40 F.
most people don't realize that the way to keep the feet more comfortable is not in wearing additional footwear but in wearing more on the head! in winter, i wear sweats (double-layered on coldest days), jacket, gloves, and cap; in summer, running shorts and/or long tank top. the reason i wear so much more in the winter is so i can go barefoot more easily. my feet have been bare for an extremely long time! stay barefoot all!
inside the house always, because i am naked then! i also go out on my deck naked all the time, and see no reason to put on a shirt then. when i do dress, i usually wear a shirt, but it may be a tank top. the resaon for that is that, if i am outside, i want to be protected from the sun as i burn easily. if i am only going into a convenience store for somethng and right back out, i sometimes will put on a long tank top and no pants--it's a lot more comfortable and easier to slip in and out of. i am not a parent and the questions dealing with fathers and mothers did not include that choice so i omitted them. if were a parent, i would raise my children in an atmosphere of bodily acceptance and the idea that body covering is not always necessary. i see no problem with men (and boys) being shirtless wherever they want. i can eat with others being completely naked so what's the big deal? so, my response to the first poster is, "take yours off!!"
i usually wear short running shorts in warm weather, and most of them are mid-thigh-length at longest. i own no undergarments so sometimes i "hang out" while sitting. as for shirts, i usually wear tank tops. in cold weather i wear sweats. in any case, my feet are always bare. would i wear a thong swimsuit in public? i might. would i go naked in public if it were permitted? most definitely!
the weather forecasters try to do their best, but mother nature simply cannot be predicted and storms don't always track the way the forecast thinks they will go. i live in iowa, and remember vividly the floods of '93. we were all aware that a disaster was imminent if more rain occurred along either of the rivers that go through our city. the forecasters told us this, and government officials were alerted to the danger. thousands of people volunteered days of labor sandbagging, trying to hold back the river. the river won. whose fault was it? no one's, except mother nature's. the rains simply would not stop, the water poured into the saturated steream beds, and was carried directly into the river, where it went downstream until it hit us. did we learn from it? yes! newer, stronger, and higher levees were built, and many other precautions taken. will it happen again? who knows? but at least if it does, we should not lose our water and electrical service. this spring has been unusually wet after a relatively dry stretch of over a year. we've had some flooding. in iowa, it's like that: freezing or boiling, drought or flood. blizzard one day, tornado the next. the list goes on and on. we get used to it, and only those who have nothing better to do complain. but no one blames the forecaster. anyone who thinks as this mayor does should try to outlaw certain types of weather--it amounts to the same thing! anyway, that's my opinion on such nonsense (not saying the poll is nonsensical!).
