I'm a barefooter, but just like I hate it when people make 'shoes required' rules, I'd never support a rule that requires bare feet. Lots of people hate to be barefoot as much as I hate to wear shoes, so why would I want to tell them they have to take their shoes off? Unless I had a gym and people would walk in with their muddy street shoes, then I might ask them to take their shoes off, but on a regular day in an office, no way. Wear (or don't wear) what you want.

I guess I'm just really hard to gross out.... I do agree with the last poster here, I wouldn't eat poop.. or many other non-food things. But food? This poll made me hungry...

I've seen some websites that have them made from leather straps instead of beads and stuff.

They're very easy to make yourself, too.

Don't think I've done anything I would consider really crazy in the scary sense.. A lot of people call me weird just for going barefoot outdoors, but I just go everywhere barefoot for the past five years. This has included four consequetive evenings of walking 10 miles a day (not a single blister), a job interview (got the job, and working barefoot), places where people warned me about lots of thistles (yes, there were, big deal I just walk on them), and brief walks in the snow (don't get much of that stuff here fortunately, but when we do I'll go out for a short walk). Lots more but it's not that big a deal for me, my feet can handle it really well and I can handle the looks people give me :)

For anyone who doesn't know, there are no health department laws banning bare feet in stores, restaurants etc. For details visit http://www.barefooters.org/health-dept

It is, unfortunately, legal to have a store policy to such effect. But store policies are not law, and you can always try to persuade a store owner to change them. Especially if he or she really believes the Health Department myth but had no personal problem with feet, you might well succeed when you are well-informed and armed with the information from the website above.
