1915 is the year, not 1920s. ( Sensitive issue, you would think that a few years doesn’t matter :) )

No one in Turkey denies that about a million Armenians died during WW1. However, we don’t believe it was result of an ethnic cleansing / genocide. Armenian minority allied with Russia and started fighting against Ottoman Empire , as a result of that civil war broke out which claimed many Armenian lives as well as Turkish lives. Later, Armenians were deported to northern Iraq, Syria which claimed even more lives with the help of diseases. Only Armenians living in the east part of the empire were forced to move, the rest were not touched.

Probably, Ottoman Empire intended to kick the Armenians out of the country but they didn’t expect it to turn into such a disaster.

Turks have problems with the following:

  • We don’t like the idea that democratic Turkey is being held responsible for something that Ottoman Empire did 100 years ago.

  • We don’t understand why it is always referred to as “Turks killed Armenians” while for example we hear “Nazis killed Jews” instead of “Germans killed Jews”.

    • We hate to see Armenians making movies like Ararat that intends to damage Turkey's image.

    • We don’t like to hear a Turk being arrested in Europe for rejecting the Armenian genocide while we are being lectured about freedom speech.

  • We don’t like the Armenian lobbies working aggressively against Turkey at every opportunity.

  • We don’t understand why Turks who got killed during the Armenian uprising are never mentioned when the subject is Armenian Genocide.

Turkey opened up Ottoman Empire’s archives for investigation long ago. There is no evidence of Turkish death squads or orders to kill Armenians or anything.

These are my observations on how Turks feel about this issue. You can search Google to find an official explanation why Turkey denies Armenian Genocide.

Peace…

Thanks for taking part in my poll.

I am a Turk and I am worried about my country's reputation especially in the Western countries. It seems to me that Americans don't even know that Turkey exists and Europeans know only negative things about Turkey.

Pre-thanks for all your constructive comments and suggestions.
