Yeah, I would say that was probably inappropriate. Although some doctors do check some things differently, that sounds as if it was a little shady.
Okay, I'm the one who started this poll, so I'll begin the discussion.
Firstly, I'm a guy who has played sports since I was a kid, so I've had MANY physicals. Each and every time the physical has been with a male doctor and female nurse or nurses. As just mentioned, I've had many physicals, I couldn't even guess how many, and the vast majority of them have been totally normal/appropriate. I do have two experiences, however that probably weren't normal.
The first one was when I was 16 and went to my doctor (a male) for a general physical. During the examination the doctor commented that the scratches on my back must've been from some rough sex, which he quickly tried to laugh off. At first I didn't think anything of it, since I was used to guy locker room talk, but later I remember thinking that comment was pretty inappropriate. Of course, being a teenager, I probably secretly wished that those scratches were indeed from a girl. :)
The other instance occurred about two years later at a Football physical. Since there was about 55 guys on our team, two doctors (males) and 5 nurses (female) worked together to get finished faster. The doctors delegated certain jobs, such as taking height, weight, etc. to the nurses. Another test that was delegated to the nurses was checking for scoliosis, which is a spine curvature problem. It normally takes about 15 seconds to check for scoliosis and just involves bending over and touching your toes while they take a quick look to see if your spine is straight and shoulders are level. Well, at this physical, after I had gotten re-dressed and AFTER the two doctors had left, a nurse came back out into the hall where we were lined up and asked me and two other team mates to come back into the exam room so they could recheck something. When the three of us got inside they informed us that we would need to strip back down to our briefs so they could re-check us for scoliosis. They then took us, one at a time, into the main exam room where all 3 nurses would "check us for scoliosis". When my "check" came, I bent over, in my underwear, with all 3 nurses standing behind me. All 3 nurses then took turns running their hands from my shoulders down to my butt to "check". I don't recall what they were talking about, but I do recall thinking that "this seems weird." Later on I would talk to my other two team mates that had to be "re-checked", and they said the same thing happened to them. So, was this inappropriate? Yeah, probably.
