My kids have always taken off their shoes and socks when they get in. They do wear slippers though. This is what we all do.

We keep our slippers by the door. Everyone takes their shoes off at the door. As a family we change from shoes to slippers when we get in. Socks come off as well usually. It's far comfier to wear slippers barefoot.

I have my slippers left by the door and when get home it's shoes and socks on and slippers on. It's something I grew up doing. We dont allow shoes in the house, my other half and kids all put our slippers on when we get in. Recently we started to offer guest slippers for our guests. It's too cold here most of the time to not wear slippers.

I wore striped pjs and plain cotton ones usually sky blue or burgundy
