I just finished my A levels yeaterday. I'm 18 and I had to wear a skirt and knee socks up till I finished school yesterday. I'm not the only one, all my year had to wear them too. All through school, winter and summer, we wore socks. At times it bothered me, most times it didn't, as all of us were the same.
At our school it is compulsory to wear a skirt with socks from 1st to 7th year.

The weather is getting colder by the day. Bare knees are stinging and turning red.
Legs are covered in goose bumps. It's winter again girls!! Knee socks, short skirts, bare legs AND winter make a VERY bad combination. Here comes another 4 months of torture.

No, we can't go bare legged, or wear short socks, it has to be the regular school ones. We also must have the correct colour and materal. NO exceptions!!! I'm used to it now, it's as if I was never away.

I went on holiday with my mates to the Canaries. School started back on 1st Sept, but we didn't get home 'till the Sunday night. It meant I missed the first day of "oh look who's back" comments. On the Monday I went in and nothing was really said. There are others repeating as well as me, but none of my friends are. It has not been too bad really, not as I thought it would be. It will really hurt next week though when the others are going off to uni, I just hope they will still include me in their lives when they return home at weekends. Putting on the uniform was hard, especially the socks, I had really thought I had finished with it forever. I had to rush out before holidays and get a new one as I had given my old one away to the charity shop. At least we can wear the skirts short, but I never thought I would be in knee socks again. I'm not looking forward to winter this year; in the past we just put up with the cold and our legs being covered with goose bumps along with the biting wind and the numbing frost, but when I thought I was away from that, it is hard to return to it.
