Yeah, I'm from England too. Sometimes in winter I keep my socks on too if its really cold. I never wear shoes indoors though. I don't care if its my house or somebody else's, as far as I'm concerned wearing shoes indoors is just rude so I always kick shoes off when I enter someone's house. I hate wearing shoes anyway.

But it does feel good to take socks off too, especially if its warm or the floor is nice to walk on (like polished wood). I often find that even if its cold outside, most people's houses are warm enough to stay in bare feet, so I'll usually take my socks off if I think the hosts won't mind (and nobody ever does!)

We had to wear a uniform at my school which consisted of white shirt, school tie, grey jumper, black blazer, grey or black pants, grey socks, and black leather shoes. Outdoor games kit was rugby shirt, black shorts, black socks and football boots (rugby/soccer) or white t-shirt, black shorts, socks & trainers (athletics, cross-country, tennis, cricket etc). Indoor PE was usually done in black shorts, shirtless and in bare feet (though you were allowed to wear a vest and trainers if you wanted, though few boys did). All PE and games lessons were single-sex. I didn't mind the uniform so much. At least everyone was the same, and we didn't have to worry about having better branded clothing than anyone else.

I love slipping my shoes off and relaxing my feet. Whenever I get a chance I'll just quietly slip off my shoes. If I'm going into somebodys house, I'll immediately take my shoes off at the door - its more comfortable for me, its better for the houseowner (keep the floors clean) and it saves any embarrassment about potential house rules. I often slip my shoes off in public places too, such as cinemas and librarys, as nobody seems to care, and its becoming more and more common to see other people walking about without shoes anyway. I always take shoes off at home, and I usually take my socks off too

I've just started wearing a vest again (a plain white "singlet") as it's been quite cold here lately. I used to wear one all the time when I was younger. I also think it's far more comfortable than a t-shirt. and I agree that vest, pants and bare feet is the way to relax at home!

At schoool when I was younger. It was quite common for someone to have their shoes (and sometimes socks too) taken off by other kids, though it was usually just for a laugh in the playground.

Usually started when a small group of friends was just hanging around, and someone would just jump on another lad and fight them for a laugh. When that person got wrestled to the ground, they might start kicking out, so someone else would yell "take his shoes off" and they'd get their shoes taken off and thrown far away or into some trees or something. Often the tormentors would then joke about smelly socks, and so they would be taken off too and lobbed over a wall or into trees or something.

Happened to me once when I was a kid at school and it was quite funny if a bit embarrassing too. I got my shoes and socks taken off and flung into a tree (I was wearing school uniform pants and grey socks). I had to climb up the tree to get them back, but I didn't mind as it was quite actually funny and I liked being in bare feet.
