When I was a kid, my dad never had a problem with me going out in my socks, which I always did anyway. Most of my socks were so dirty on the bottom that they never came poperly clean anyway.
I've been a dedicated sock walker since I was a kid. I was raised by my dad and he really didn't care about silly things like what I had on my feet. I think it started one day when we were going out shopping and I couldn't find my shoes. I was probably about 8. I went in just my white socks for the day and loved it. I loved walking on the warm pavement and sliding around the cool floors of the stores. By the time we got home, the bottoms of my socks were black. I kept them on for the rest of the day. Since then, I do everything I can in my socks and go out of my way to get the bottoms filthy. I do it with socks of every color, especially the ones that show the dirty outline of my feet well.
Ever since I was a kid, I've always loved going around in just my socks. My best friend and I never wore shoes to play outside and would usually kick our shoes off in school. My dad was pretty permissive and often let us wear just our socks when we went out to the mall or the movies. Out socks would be black by the time we were done, but that was all part of the fun. If it started to rain, we'd jump in puddles or squish in the mud. We'd just put on dry socks when we got inside. By the time I got to college, I didn't even bring shoes to school anymore. These days, I go pretty much everywhere in just socks, except work. I love getting filthy black soles. While I do see barefooters from time to time, I almost never see another sockfooter. The only other one I've seen in the past couple of years was an 8 year old boy at the mall in just his socks. His sock soles were pitch black. The rest of his family was barefoot.
Dude, you gotta leave your shoes and socks on when you jump in the pool. Nothing feels better than squishing around in wet shoes.
I started purposely getting my shoes and socks wet when I was 8 and saw my neighbors running through the sprinklers fully clothed. I've been hooked ever since.
I vividly remember waiting at the school bus stop in the rain and wading throught the deepest puddles I could find. By the time I got to school, I would be squealshing down the halls. I remember getting caught once by my Dad when trying to get my shoes a little damp in the pool. He asked why I was doing it and I told him that it felt good. To my surprise, he said he didn't care what I got wet in as long as I stayed outside. I asked him if I could just jump in the pool and he said he didn't care. I jumped in wearing shoes, socks, shorts + a t-shirt and loved it.
The next day after school, I invited over the two neightbor kids that I saw in the sprinkler that day, a boy a girl about my age. We all wore sneakers, socks, jeans, and sweat shirts and swam around for an hour. We then rode our bikes down to the local park on the street corner, still in our soaked clothes. It was awesome.
This is a trend that I continue to this day. While my wife isn't too keen on it, me, my 9 yr old son and 12 yr old daughter can often be seen swimming in our pool in jeans, shoes and socks.
