Posted in Should I enforce my sons home uniform on 2008-06-23 06:39:37

I agree. I used to hate my school uniform and would take it off as soon as I got home, until my grades slipped and Mum made me wear it until bed. When I was 12 she bought me my school uniform for the next year for Christmas and was told to go upstairs and change before church. I was dumbfounded, usually I would get pretty clothes and shoes for Christmas (like the other girls - what whould I say), and now I was getting my tunics ect. I was told that I wear my uniform most of the time anyway, and that there was no point in having casual clothes that would go to waste. I changed (pink gingham tunic, brown socks and brown laseup school shoes) and came downstairs where my Mum put my hair in a bun and bun net. This was hard enough, but my little sister got new casual clothes but was told when she also goes into grade 7, she would be in the same situation as me. Mum and I cleaned out my casual clothes from my cupboard and dropped them at the Vinnies box outside the church. Since then I have only been in full school uniform, and I have gotten used to it. I had no choice, so I made the best of it. I do like not having to decide on what to wear, and have started uni wearing it this year as Mum feels it's just an extention of school.

Hi Trish. I have been a bit slack with the wollen jumper and blazer for the past 2 weeks, but have taken your advice and asked my Mother to enforce it. I now have to wear my FULL school uniform at ALL times, and she has got a tunic for me to wear instead of just a skirt, so in the morning, I have to put on panties, bra, long sleeved beige school shirt with top button done up, maroon tie (tightly done up), biege ribbed tights, maroon woolen tunic and belt, maroon woolen v neck jumper, maroon blazer with all three buttons done up, brown polished Clarkes laceup school shoes, hair in a ballet bun with extender and straw hat with maroon ribbon for outside. No aircon at class or home, but I feel well dresses not uncomfortable.

These seem like arsh punishments. My daughters have to wear there full school uniform at all times, after school, weekends and holidays - NO EXCEPTIONS. They didn't like it at first but as they had no choice, they got used to it and are well behaves because of it. Also recently they have begun kneeling time. After diner each night, they kneel before their parents for 15 minutes as a sign of respect. Young girls should never have their legs exposed and wear thick tights to keep prying eyes at bay, and I find keeping their hair up in a neat ballet bun helps on that to.

Hi Dane, it's not a cult. I still respect God, but I feel my parents brought me into this world, so a simple gesture is not harmfull. Remember, I was the one who chose, so it's not child abuse.

It seems they were made to kneel, as aposed to me CHOOSING to kneel, but if they have come around, fair enough. I don't call my sister Ma'am, but I think my parents (if I had a brother) would make me call all men Sir. As for kneeling to them, I can't say. Haven't been there.
