Re prosition 8. In Britain we elect governments to pass laws like that. We don't have government by referendum (although the right would like us to) because certain things have to be decided by free thinking level headed people without axes to grind.

that's why the death penalty remains off our statutes and we are still members of the EU. If we went to a referendum there would be the kind of rubbish you got in the run in to the vote and people would be voting based on prejudice and fear.

It seems to be ok in USA to rubbish the decisions of the majority. Is that really the case.

In the UK the part with the most votes wins but you have a system that allows someone with less votes than someone else become the most powerful person on Earth. Bush got less votes in the first election but still won and the second seems to have been the same. When Obama does the unthinkable and wins by actually polling the most votes the Repugnicans rubbish the American people and continue their lies. How can that be American?

In Britain we may complain about the government but never rubbish the electorate. To do that would alienate the electorate and we'd never see them voting our way again. Is there a point at which the Repugnicans will accept that they lost and stop insulting the electorate's intelligence or will they continuie to harm their future prospects regardless?
