Friends with an Ex

The question invloves men and woman being friends with ex's. Assuming no kids are invloved, is it right for ex-boy/girlfriends or ex-spouses to be your friends now that you are in a new committed relationship?
Your significant other asks you to dinner with an old girlfriend/boyfriend (no kids invloved). They claim there are no feelings. Are you wrong for not wanting to go? Does your partner have a right to ask you to be OK with it? Are you OK with it? Is it OK for your significant other to maintain a relationship with this person?
