I recycled or reused a plastic water bottle, so there is one less in our landfills.
At home, school or work, I used water efficiently, like running my dishwasher or washing machine only on a full load.
I remembered to turn off lights or appliances that I'm not using, or when leaving a room.
I planted a tree.
I walked, rode a bicycle, or took public transportation or carpooled with friends to where I needed to go. Or I drove a hybrid or alternative-fuel vehicle.
I refrained from using an aerosol can that emits CFCs (chlorofiber carbons--is that the right term?) into the atmosphere, which damage the ozone layer.
As I'm taking this poll, there is a light on in the room that uses an energy-efficient/non-halogen bulb.
I performed a routine maintainence check on my furnace, water heater, air conditioner, smoke detector, etc. to make sure they're running optimally (or I plan to do so when the scheduled time comes).
I disposed of toxic substances properly, such as swimming pool chlorine and motor vehicle oil. (The pollmaker has heard that) these things contain dangerous chemicals which seep into the soil and eventually drain to the oceans, where they can 'damage' sea water and kill marine life.
I scolded someone I saw tossing litter from a car window, or I picked up trash from the roadside--that was NOT part of a community service punishment.
I bought and/or used a product or service from a company that invests in green energy credits.
On the other side of the coin, I refused to patronize (meaning boycotted) a company that is known to damage the environment, or does nothing to help it.
I sent a tax-deductible contribution to an outfit such as the Surfrider Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, etc.
I sent a communication to my favorite politician, urging him or her to "write laws that will help preserve the Earth for future generations".
I educated someone on the importance of one or more of the above.
