save old growth trees

some thousand, two thousand plus year old trees are being logged on the west coast of the united states and canada. These kinds of trees only exist here in all the world. The clinton adminstration tried buy outs of privately owned land, but the owners never sold. to the best of my knowledge, the bush administration has done nothing to stop this abuse of unique environments.
do you think whoever is president should make saving these trees a top priority?
yes, absolutely, at all costs- even government buy outs of privately owned land.
if the government pays for loggers to be retrained in other sustainable or environmental work.
i just don't think our country can pay for this now.
