Would you mind...?

I'm a 16 year old guy, and I'm overweight. I love to swim so much! But seriously why have guys swim with their shirt off? It bugs me. I usually swim with a shirt on anyway, but lately I just want to take off my shirt in public and not care who sees. But at the same time I don't want people to look at me and be like "Yikes! Who invited the guy with boobs?" So before I actually go in public with no shirt on, I want to know how people would think if they saw a shirtless 250+ lb. guy.
