Equal opportunity for the descendants of rural, ignorant people.

I don't see much of a difference between the grandchildren of minorities who lived in large cities and the grandchildren of poor, blue-collar, undereducated people who lived in very rural areas and who happened to be part of the majority. My grandparents and their peers weren't pushed to go to school past grade 4, and my grandmother has told me she thinks they were "ripped off" in regards to the level of education they were given, the opportunities, etc. Her first year at school was learning the alphabet with a piece of chalk and a slate. She said it was easy and boring, they didn't challenge them at all. Their education was underfunded, unfair, and unequal to their urban counterparts. Now, would you say that's a good basis for being compensated?

Do you think affirmative action in North America, and other official programs that allow people to out-compete others based on being a minority (race or sex) of equal or even lesser skill, is fair?
Yes
No
Why do you think it's fair or unfair?
My comment on how I am descended from people who had less opportunities because of where in North America they lived and what their state funded education was like is a comparison to being a minority in a larger city at the time.
Any final thoughts on this?
