Mister Poll: (MALES ONLY) Would you lay down your life for a woman?

About a century ago, when a ship was going down, women and children had first priority on the lifeboats. About half a century ago, it was an unquestioned axiom that only a man could be drafted and made to fight and die for his country.

I'm curious to know how many males today still have chilvalrous attitudes.

1) Let's say a known psychotic murderer is aiming a gun at the chest of your girlfriend/wife and declared he is about to shoot and kill her. You happen to know the gun contains hollow point bullets, which are the kind of bullets that explode inside the victim's chest and would not overpenetrate to kill anyone behind the victim. In other words, if you decide to shield her with your body, you can be assured she will live, but you will die. What would you do?

2) Now suppose you are on a sinking ship with only enough lifeboats for half the passengers. There is no hope that help can reach in time before sinking into cold shark infested waters. All the passengers are adults and 50/50 male/female. What do you think should be done?

let all the women, and only the women, go on the lifeboats

conduct a lottery to see who gets the lifeboats (assume there's enough time)

every man/woman for him/herself (let people fight it out)

nobody goes on the lifeboats (which means everyone is likely to die)

3) The all-female gym where your girlfriend/wife works out has been seized by terrorists and all the women have been taken hostage. They threaten to execute one hostage every half hour their impossible demands are not met. After some tense negotiations with authorities, the terrorists decide to allow a 1 for 1 hostage swap: each female hostage may be replaced by a male hostage from the outside. What would you do?

rush over to the gym and volunteer to take your girlfriend/wife's place

volunteer only if no other man volunteers

stay at home even if nobody volunteers

4) Imagine you are married and have children the day World War III erupts. Congress reinstates the draft. In a fit of political correctness, they decide to draft both men and women. But they grant an exemption to families with children: they allow one parent to stay at home while the other must go to war. Your wife says she's willing to fight for her country, but she'll stay at home and tend to the kids if you insist on going.

5) In questions 1 & 3, the woman in quesiton was your wife/girlfriend. Would your answer to questions 1 & 3 be any different if the woman were a complete stranger?
