My Detention Your Detention?

(THIS IS LONG BUT READ IT ANYWAY) This poll is about detentions and if mine (Benton) was rightfully justified, and about how your school does detentions. So here is the story. I have not received one detention (or prime time as they call them) from my school once this year. That is until three months into second semester. My side of the story: I don't know why exactly I show up late to my Math class all the time. I don't stop in the hallways or chat with friends on my way to math class. I just go straight to math from my previous class. Yet I show up late. Some days I'm lucky and I just make it. This has been happening that way for me since the beginning of the semester. HOWEVER when I do come to my math class late the teacher hasn't even begun the lesson! I have never missed any of the lesson even though I arrive late. So I still know what to do and how to do it. Yet three months into the semester with no previous problems she begins to give detentions. I and a few others show up late and get sent right to the office, where, we are given detentions and thus miss the lesson. So onto the questions!
