In late December, Federated Department Stores (at the time, owners of the Macy's and Bloomingdales companies) and May Company Department Stores (at the time owners of Marshall Fields, Filenes, Kaufmanns, etc.- for a full list, go to mayco.com) "merged". Now the 12 department stores and 3 bridal shops are being turned into Macy's. Most of these department stores have been around for at least 100-200 years. Also, Federated bought other stores such as The Bon Marche, Rich's and F&R Lazarus.
