Which was Jesus - God or the Son of God?

There are 2 versions of the character we see as Jesus. First there is the historical character, who I happen to believe existed, although there's probably more historical evidence to support the lochness monster's existence. I believe Jesus was a very clever, human teacher, who may have possibly spread a message of love to all, regardless of race, belief, sex, age or origin. I believe that maybe 2 or 3 small fractions of what he said have survived. Then there is the story of the son of God, which has been wriiten more than 25 times over the past few thousand years, at least 16 times before Christianity and has carried the same elements of the story through each religion.
