Public Clothing Optional Water Park / For Non-nudists

Will it work?

Posted by DUDE1234 on 2008-01-10 01:01:56

Does anyone think this idea would work if it were tried?

Why or why not...

And, what do you think it would be like?

What if you ran into people you knew and you were naked and they were not?

Why would you go nude when you didn't have to?

What area would you like to see something like this in?

A clothing optional water park would be a great idea. I wish there was more of them, and/or public legal nude beaches, available to be visited. The idea would and would not work for various reasons.

The idea could work and would attract a good number of visitors because I'm sure there are plenty of people who want a place they can recreationally go nude, whether or not they are willing to admit it. Nude and clothing optional resorts and beaches exist but they are few and far between. A water park such as this in the regions between those resorts and beaches would benefit from the business from those people who can't or won't travel that far.

Unfortunately there are far more reasons that would hold such an idea back (in no particular order). First, those people who are too modest, shy, or prudish to go nude would protest the discount rate for those who do go nude, even if they wouldn't attend anyway. Second, invariably there are protests from neighbors around such an establishment with claims of increased traffic, increased crime, open "lewdness or indecency" (in quotes because that's their misconception; there is nothing lewd or indecent about mere nudity), public sex, or whatever. However, for a clothing required water park to be opened in the same location there would be little or no protests at all. Third would be protests in general, either from religious groups claiming "immorality" or parents/family groups screaming "think about the children!", regardless of how far away from such a place they live and how little impact it has on their lives. Such objection would be more likely in the midwest and "bible belt", with a nude water park being more accepted in the liberal parts of the country such as the west coast (Oregon, California, Nevada), northeast coast, and Florida.

Regarding the poll question about what proportion of the guests would take advantage of the clothing optional rule, I think initially the number of nude guests would be pretty low, maybe a quarter of them. But then as those more prudish non-nude guests become too uncomfortable with the nudity they would quit visiting the park (or never visit in the first place) and reduce total attendance, which would increase the proportion of nude attendants to about half.

If such a place did open it would need to have a good security force to prevent unauthorized photos and video from being taken of nude guests, prevent gawkers from trying to spy in from outside the walls of the park, and to protect the guests against being attacked (sexually or physically) because of their nudity. We all know that nudity does not automatically mean sex and such a park would be very nonsexual, but the way our society is so screwed up and does automatically associate nudity with sex it would make such security very much a necessity.

On your last question about what if I ran into people I knew when I was nude and they weren't, I'd say hello and give them good wishes on enjoying the park. If they have some issue with my nudity that's their problem, not mine. Besides, if anybody I knew was uptight about nudity (and most of them are), they wouldn't visit a nude or clothing/optional water park to begin with.
