Famous Anti-Semites
For that matter don't forget the small black nazi allied group that briefly formed in Harlem in the 30's.
And what about the Black neo-confederates? Do they prove that the Confederacy wasn't racist?
Let's not forget the Black slave owners, do they disprove a slavery as a racist institution?
Does Native American involvement in the Trail of Tears make it not racist?
It's easy enough to find people willing to be collaborators for their own reasons. Jesse Peterson's racist rants about black people aren't redeemed in any way by his being black himself. Michelle Malkin's tirades against immigrants or asians aren't in any way lessened by her being asian herself.
That kind of stupid argument is a cheap attempt to try and whitewash a position instead of honestly arguing it.
Finally let's not forget that Torquemada was of Jewish descent. Clearly the Spanish Inquisition was not Antisemitic.
Oh I'm more than happy to honestly argue it, its all those people who dismiss every attempt to suggest that the Palestinians might not be getting a fair deal with by accusing everyone who disagrees with them of anti-Semitism who are trying to whitewash issues.
There is also a very significant difference between the Jews included in the poll and the collaborators you are citing. Most of the people you mention are siding with the powerful against the weak, generally as a means of escaping their own disadvantages. The people on the poll should naturally side with the powerful in this case, namely Israel and its allies, but they have made the deliberate decision to support and campaign for the underdogs.
Your list has no consistency to it. It mixes together people who are genuinely looking for a peaceful solution like Yossi Beilin with guys like Adam Shapiro who supports terrorist attacks and whose group has sheltered terrorists. And then you've got Weiss, who's a peculiar religious fanatic from a fringe religious group. And then Noam Chomsky and Norman Finkelstein who spend so much time flirting with Holocaust deniers they should probably marry them.
The list is as senseless as an Arab paper classing together Ralph Nader, David Duke, Green Day, Pat Buchanan, Rosie O'Donnell and the Westboro Baptist Church as Iraq War Critics and claiming that what goes for one, goes for them all.
The people on your list hold a wide variety of ideological positions from the far left to the far right. Some are genuine committed to peace. Some are bigots. Some are nuts. Classing them together because they're all Jewish and all opponents of Israeli policy is meaningless and dishonest.
Criticism of a country or an ethnic group can run the gamut from genuine criticism to bigotry. Criticism is not inherently good. If there's a challenge to it, it has to be evaluated on its own merits, instead of trying to buy it some blank check buy trotting out a member of that ethnic group as a critic.
Racist organizations have gotten very good at doing that over the years. The BNP regularly trots out an Indian or too. Conservatives have their pet minorities. Jewish critics of Israel no more disprove the reality that in some cases Antisemitism is conjoined with Antizionism, anymore than the Minutemen fielding some Hispanic allies doesn't disprove the racist bases of their argument
It doesn't matter if a Jewish Nazi may not be a racist...that's just semantic garbage. He's going to be a racist because he's still going to hate blacks, yellows, reds and other races which no one is in dispute about,as being races. It'll all come down to his ability to play little word games.
I never said that the views of the people on the list are uniform. It would be outrageously bizarre if they were. They do, however, all have some level of disgust for the war crimes and apartheid tacticso of the Israeli government, that is all I ever said they shared. There diversity hardly discredits the point of the poll; to show the hollowness of the idiots who use anti-semitism as an end all to every argument that challenges their bigotry and their assumption that Israel must be right in everything it does, which might hurt their brain. I'm personally sick of been compared to Hitler simply for pointing out the economic and political realities of the Middle-East.
As for your attacks on particular individuals; Shapiro does not support terrorism, he has said that attacks on colonists and soldiers in the occupied territories, which are legitimate, if horrific, acts of war, not terrorism. Finkelstein and Chomsky, moreover, have had practically nothing to do with Holocaust deniers. It's an absoluted myth that they have. In the case of Chomsky, for example, I personally wouldn't regard a liaison almost 30 years ago as worthy cause for marriage. Finkelstein criticises the exploitation of the Holocaust to justify further, lesser outrages by its victims and their descendents. Strange how nearly every Jewish religious group except Weiss's is OK in the views of supporters of Israel, they can be as crazy as they want to so long as they defend Israel's atrocities.
