Poll on the Ethics of Animal Abuse and Cruelty

There's an alternative

Instead of testing human products on animals, the testing should be done on prison inmates, especially those who are in for life and/or on death row. There's too much variation in the physiology between animals and humanimals to know for sure when some product or drug is safe/unsafe, effective/ineffective. For example, grapes and onions are poisonous to dogs, but humans safely eat tons of them every year. If some great cancer drug proved toxic or deadly in a lab animal, how can they know it wouldn't be safe in a human?

in a way, i agree, but i think that it would only work with death row inmates b/c they are sentanced to die anyways. but the problem is that ppl. would say that it is painful and unethical, but apparently harming innocent animals is not..

it is more ethical to test animals than it is to test on humans. Also, the death row thing would be violation of the Eighth amendment prohibiting cruel and unusual ppunishment.

I must disagree, in my opinion. It is very unethical to test on innocent animals. It is not unethical to test on death row inmates who have done anything from murder to rape, all sorts of violent crimes against other humans. They forfeited their right to ethical treatment and right against cruel and unusual punishment when they committed the crime. They do not deserve such rights. Animals do.
