Yeah, right, mrbillion. Exodus was written by someone who KNEW the world was round, and he was talking about insignificant deposits of ground water in wells. The context obviously EQUATES in significance the heavens above, the earth, and the rest of the universe taken up by the water that the flat earth floated on. Too bad the writer of Exodus forgot to mention that the earth was round. Would have advanced the massacre of the heathens by thousands of years.

hundreds of years before copernicus people attempted to disprove the bible using the verse in Job where God says that he sits upon the circle of the earth. They said that since that this verse suggests a round earth, and scisence at the time knew the earth to be round. Therefore this verse proves the bible to be untrue.
History now laughs at their attempts, as it will one day laugh at yours.
BTW ever heard of symbolism, maybe the writer wasn't setting forth a thesis on the roundness or flatness of the earth, maybe he was using descriptive language to make a bigger point

Yes there is water under the ground and there were wells in those days.There are rivers that flow underground and there are underground caverns and underground sea caverns.
When you look up into the sky,a)you are looking UP(as in above),and b) you are looking towards teh heavens(space,out into the universe,etc)...and WOW,HEY...this is true even if you are in America or in Australia!
Who'd a thunk it?
