Are young marriages the solution to sexual immorality?

How does this lower the teen pregnancy rate???

Posted by Emerald_Lilly on 2006-01-24 16:48:53

Allowing teenagers to get married at 16 would not decrease the teen pregnancy rate, only put it in a wedlock situation. We would have a bunch of married pregnant teens. And Teens at sixteen have not finished high school yet, married or not. This would still result in a higher rate of school dropouts and lower income families. Children in wedlock is a religious moral issue. If you want to lower the teen pregnancy rate, you need to educate them on how to make informed and responsible choices.

As I mentioned in my first post on young marriages, young married couples can use birth control until they are ready to raise a family.

They can also use birth control now outside of marriage, but many are not making that choice. So it still presents the same problem of a higher pregancy rate.

You seem to be mistakingly thinking that a young marriage relationship is no different from a sexual relationship outside of marriage between a boyfriend and girlfriend. This is not the case. Remember that this poll is in the Religious section and is directed towards Christians and members of other religions who believe that sex outside of marriage is wrong.

A young marriage relationship between such people is going to be more stable because it will have family support as well as the couple following their religious teachings. The family as a whole will also be involved in the premarital counseling and marriage arrangements.

Birth control is more likely to work in the more stable marriage relationship, but if an early pregnancy occurs, their families will be there to assist the couple in taking care of the child. In general, the possibility of early pregnancy is something that the couple and their families can plan for during the premarital counseling.

I still dont agree. I know many people that got married either right before graduating high school or right out of high school. None of them worked out, the longest lasted two years. Maybe if we lived in a different society, but our society is set up that people of that age are really just beginning to define themselves and decide what they want out of life...changing their mids repeatedly as they go along. Rushing into marriage is not a good solution for anything, and is rather careless as far as I'm concerned. I've been wondering, though...are you a teen wanting to get married??
