Should prayer be allowed in public schools?

prayer in schools

Posted by Poll Master Person on 2004-04-15 06:14:52

How many times does a student pray that they will pass a test without anybody else getting involved? Seems like prayer in schools is already happening.

Group prayer seems to be the real issue. Everytime there is a group there is always going to be people inside the group and people outside the group. What teenager wants to be in the outside group?

If group prayer were allowed, would students, teachers, etc who wished to pray to Satan be allowed?

Everyone would be allowed...perhaps not all approved by everyone, by allowed.

Excellent point: in my opinion, students should absolutely be allowed to pray on school premises while they are not at assemblies or in class, et cetera. It is organized prayer in public schools that is unacceptable, as it marginalizes religious minorities, including agnostics and atheists. And for a teacher to lead a prayer is completely unacceptable for these reasons.

That said, if a student crosses himself/herself before a math test, I would say (s)he should not be punished, nor should anyone for praying before or after a meal.

ASK is correct

It is the private vs. public (state, i.e. school sanctioned)practice of religion.

Private-ok Public-not ok

It's a very simple clear cut case, but fundie xtians can't understand pure logic, only hysterical hyperbole..
