Should prayer be allowed in public schools?
What this really is about is the fundamentalist Christians not getting their way about prayer and wanting religious clubs in public schools. How about if these people who are so upset about not being able to force prayer on everyone in public places, were forced to have equal time with other world religions? Think about it-Monday-a Hindu prayer to Lord Rama, Tuesday-Read a surah from the Koran,-Wednesday-Read a bible quote, Thursday-burn a Native American smudge pot and say an Apache prayer, Friday-Quote from the Torah.
Surprise! The fundies aren't so happy now!
Ya boo, fundamentalist christians my foot. (?) Shouldn't be acting like that to begin with, and gives people a bad impression on us all. Prayer of any kind should be allowed, although not necissarily formal classes or whatever.
Sounds like a plan to me. Peyote Fridays, anyone?
Religious after school clubs organized by students are allowed, and there's no reason they shouldn't be. So long as it neither encroaches upon freedom of religion nor gives state endorsement of any religion, there is no problem.
