Should prayer be allowed in public schools?
I believe that individual prayer irregardless of the religion, should be allowed in school, or anywhere else. Actually, it is. Any student in any school, can pray to whatever diety they wish and it is legal. What isn't allowed or legal, is organized group prayer.
Besides, it would be totally impossible to stop an individual person from praying, anyway. No one would even know that they are praying, unless they made a show of it, which according to my religion isn't proper anyway.
I do understand that some religions do have a ritual around prayer, which I personally don't have an issue with, as long as that individual performs their ritual without incorporating others or making a grand performance out of it.
========== In Reply To ========== Actually not only is there individual prayer allowed in school there is group prayer. I know that sometimes the sports teams might get together before the game in a circle and the team prays. There is obviously nothing wrong with individual prayer, but there just shouldn't be prayer amongst a classroom especially with the teacher leading it. I once had a teacher that used to write scriptures from the Holy Bible on the board and the students would see it and read it before class. That type of stuuf no matter what religion is what really shouldn't be allowed in the classroom. I believe it's not the fact of prayer because prayer is just asking for a blessing, but the issue for real is the fact of people deliveing religious messages to others that may convert or offend someone from another religion.
