teaching creationism in public schools

My opinion

I couldn't answer this poll because it doesn't really describe my beliefs. If I answer that I think creationism should be taught, does that mean that's the only thing that should be taught? A few years ago I learned about this stuff in 10th grade (in a public school). We learned about different theories as to how the earth came about. We had darwinism, the big band theory, the primordial soup theory (or whatever), and we also had the divine creation theory. Nothing should be taught as fact in school unless we can prove it as fact. So creationism should not be taught as a fact, but as a theory along with the other theories.

Although I am a creationist/evolutionist hybrid, I agree. They should all be taught as theories because that's what they are. Furthermore, this will help avoid intolerance issues because it will leave the students free to believe as they find themselves convicted, rather than having students feel as if they have to believe one particular theory just so that they can do well on their assignments.

The poll question was not "Should creationism be taught in public schools to the exclusion of all other explanations?" It was "Should creationism be taught in public schools?"

The only problem I have with creationism being taught is the fact that there is no evidence for it which is credible. What evidince was shown when you were taught it?

Shall we also teach how the Gods of ancient Greece created the world? Or perhaps the Egyptians? Or perhaps the Hindu myth of how the Earth is hollow and is supported on the back of a giant tortoise? Because these, like Genesis, are all MYTHS! Created by primitive people who had no scientific knowledge to explain an unknowable, scary world. Scientific theories must be supported by physical evidence (and no, the whole, everything is so complex that we must have a creator doesn't count). We have DNA evidence that we are related to chimps. We have carbon dating to prove that the world is not 6,000 years old. All but the most Orthodox of Jews and Catholics accept science. Why is it that the little sects of Christianity who have only been around for a few centuries at best need to feel like they're the ones with the most authentic knowledge and connection with the divine?
