teaching creationism in public schools
Sorry, I disagree. Creationism is a belief system, not a theory. Evolution is scientific theory, which is revised according to new information. I think it's strange creationists will drive cars, want access to the latest medical treatments and have all the other benefits science has brought us, but on the one point of "where did it all begin", bible thumpers freak out if it doesn't include something about god. I was in Catholic schools most of my life, and there is no conflict whatsoever between evolution and belief in god. This is purely a set up situation brought about by Baptist/Bible centered/Fundamentalists who can't seem to educate their children at their own churches, but need the state to help spread their ideas.
Amen, chucksmom. I fully agree. You almost never see Catholics, Jews, agnostics, Buddhists, or anyone but Southern Baptists trying to get the State to shove their religious beliefs down the throats of others. Perhaps it's because the Catholic Church learned its lesson in the Middle Age, but they are now (besides the whole birth control issue) the voice of reason in Christianity.
