Men boys vs. women girls at sports: battles of the sexes

soccer: girls 3 - boys 0

Some time ago my girlfriend´s all female soccer team (av. age about 17) played a match against a boys team (slightly younger). The boys were really good but they lost against the girls by 0-3.

They were surprised by the aggressiveness of the women who got an early lead. The men were eager to tie, but the female defenders did a good job and their excellent goalkeeper hindered the boys from scoring.

In the late second half the boys showed lack of concentration so the girls played brilliant counter-attacks and my girlfriend scored twice. After the final whistle she (and all the other female around) naturally felt great.

She reckoned this result shows that women are generally better at socker. I´m really glad to have a rather athletic girlfriend, but certainly I tried objecting to her. But since I have not watched and don´t know about any other boys vs. girls matches I´m not sure whether she is so wrong.

The poll´s results seem to back her even if they were a little manipulated. (I think the poll can´t be spammed to a real big extent, because there are not so many girls taking part). What´s your experience in male vs. female matches?

What´s your experience in male vs. female matches? Reply: I have been doing a thorough study and calculation of male vs. female competition in sports. So far,and perhaps surprisingly, the women (JV, high school, college and independent)have had a winning edge by approx. 53-47%, esp. in Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Hockey and close in Wrestling/Kickboxing. I like what you say about polls and even if they are somewhat spammed. On many, I take a 12-20% error factor and the girls/women are still on top! I believe the boys/men are underestimating and also being too forceful...they tire out, become complacent and wind up getting beat. Very interesting subject!

Reply: Congratulations to your girlfriend and her team mates. In summer camp we played soccer, b vs.g. It was a rather rough game since no one wanted to lose. I must admit that we girls played more fouls but there was no other way to keep the male team away from our goal. They even got a penalty kick but luckily our goalie kept it. Then I got a chance and hammered the ball into the guys net. At the end the result was 1-0 for us and I was proud to score the decisive goal but I think the real match winner was our goalie. We girls didn´t play better but we were a little bit taller and maybe stronger and more ambitious than the boys and we gave everything to beat them. Certainly they were complaining about their spoiled opportunities and our fouls. The next day the guys were still offended so we girls had to break the ice by making some jokes with them. Hey guys, just relax. According to Allan´s results you shouldn´t be surprised when you lose against us.

Sorry. I confused Allan with Adrian. I was referring to Adrian´s results indeed.
