Favorite Fantasy/Sci-Fi Books

Other Fantasy Writers....

The author of the Harry Potter series is J.K. Rowling. Other authors that you should consider adding are: Anne McCaffrey (author of the "Pern" series of novels as well as many other series and independent novels), Piers Anthony (author of the "Xanth" series, as well as many other novels), C.S. Lewis (author of "The Chronicles of Narnia" as well as several Sci Fi novels), Lewis Carroll (author of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass), H.G. Wells (author of "The Time Machine," "The Island of Doctor Moreau," and "The War or the Worlds," among other things, and widely considered the father of Sci Fi in the same way that Tolkien is considered the father of Fantasy), and Jules Verne (another founding father of Sci Fi, author of "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and others).

Other notions: in your poll's title, you mentioned both Fantasy and Sci Fi, but within the poll, you lump all the writers and works together under the heading of Fantasy. I think you should seperate the Fantasy writers/works from the Sci Fi writers/works. Also, although you list Tolkien as an author, you don't list any of his works as possible favourite books (how could you forget the Lord of the Rings trilogy or the Hobbit?). You also list several works by Adams and several by Pratchett, but there isn't much variety besides that. And if you're going to ask about favourite Fantasy or Sci Fi book turned TV series, you might also ask about favourite Fantasy or Sci Fi book turned movie as well--there are far more of those to choose from (are you sure, by the way, that Star Trek began as a book and became a TV show? I'm quite a big Trekkie, and from what I understand, Gene Roddenberry conceived it straight out as a television series).

You are right... Star Trek was conceived as a TV show that happened to bring out alot of books. I have about 100 of them. (about 1/3 of the total collection)
