Telford Town Park controversy - have your say

You can't be a criminal if you haven't committed a crime

Hi from Slough, Berkshire. Personally I love children, although I have none of my own. I really think it is so over-the-top to think about having a law which would allow any lone adult to be approached in this way. Talk about Big Brother is Watching You!! I can go and walk in the park any time I like, thank you. I would be very annoyed if someone tried to compromise my basic rights in this way.
I have to be careful what I say here, but I also like looking at children, in the park or indeed elsewhere. I love to observe them, watch them play, and listen to the things they say. They are so fascinating, and lovely. Of course, this is light years away from having any sexual interest in them, which is filthy and wicked and totally evil.
The more serious the crime, the more important it is to make certain someone is guilty of that crime, before you pass judgement on it. It is precisely because sexual abuse of children is so wicked, that we must be very very sure someone is guilty before taking action. The average Joe Bloggs in the park is not guilty of anything.
It's not a crime to go for a walk in the ruddy park!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Predator - you've injected a much-needed does of humanity and common sense into the debate.

I'm starting to understand why so many people want to emigrate. Spain and Italy may have their drawbacks as places to live, but would this sort of thing happen over there? I doubt it. Telford & Wrekin Council backtracked on this policy a few days after it became public, probably because they realised it was a PR disaster. (I don't live in Telford, I just got the information off the internet). But it makes you wonder what would have happened if someone had been spotted "acting suspiciously" in the park and the park warden had called the police when they refused to leave. Would I have found myself arrested on a trumped up charge of "causing harrassment, alarm or distress"? Or would I have turned the tables by getting the parkkeeper arrested for "harrassing" me? It could have gone either way. I feel this is part of a trend towards government (at all levels) becoming more bossy and interfering and generally having less and less regard for our dignity as humnan beings. Stories about local councils misusing or overusing their powers in various ways seem to becoming all too common. Part of the reason I made this poll was to get people to think about whether there is a pattern to it, and why, and if there's anything we can do about it.
