World Trade Center: America Under Attack
I changed the word "memorial" to the word "monument" in the third response. I feel that whatever is done, it should be in remembrance of this disaster. I also feel that any thing that done, whether a building, park, etc., WILL be a memorial. I think that having the word "memorial" in the response would bias the audience against looking at the other answers as memorials as well.
What should be built?
My thoughts are for new similar twin-towers close to the original versions. Anything less would be a victory for the scum that caused this. Anything more would be showing off and courting further attacks.
Also, the twin towers until last week always looked wonderful and seemed a perfect match for the rest of the city - I can think of no other design that would work so well.

It should be privately owned property so it's up to the owners.
I don't think they'll want another tall building or buildings because noone would want to work there.
I said to make a memorial because I agree that I think it will be difficult to get people to work there. I am afraid that if we rebuild it, terrorists will just attack it again. Making a memorial is a way to avoid rebuilding it that doesn't make it obvious we are wimping out.
But if it is rebuilt, I would like to see it look like the old towers.

I think making a memorial WOULD be wimping out. I mean, how much less could we do?
I think we should build it bigger and better (a single building). This sends the message, "Look you knocked down our buildings so now we have a BETTER one. So thanks to you, we have the TALLEST building in the world again." It is true that it would make a prime target, but there are so many other targets anyway: the Space Needle, the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, and just about everything in DC.
Many people don't remember this, but the White House was destroyed a long time ago. We didn't move the president's official residence to some underground bunker with a memorial plaque on the wall. We rebuilt it, and it still one of the top 5 targets in the US.
We should remember the people that died (just as we remember ANYONE that dies), but the less we let it affect how we live, the better off will be we as individuals and as a country.
