What are Liberal Beliefs?
Their rhetoric is invariably about liberty...yet they consistently kowtow to power, no matter how little of it they and their ilk actually have. Their only gods are those who verbally flatulate as they do yet have economic and governmental boots on their collective neck, as they squirm in masochistic ecstasy. Yes, it's grotesque, but heartening to know they're selecting themselves out of the gene pool.
The rest of us know that liberty, being all that current society allows, is but the first step toward freedom: that condition in which there are no limitations save what we as individuals place upon ourselves, and all the fruits of labor are produced and shared equally...at least, until such time as our technology frees us from work and lets us get on with the business of being truly creative, according to our abilities.
If you look at the questions carefully, it confirms my general view on Conservative thought. It is based on the idea that certain groups of people and certain people are more ENTITLED to rights in society, because somehow they are better than everyone else. When this view is taken to the extreme, we merge into the type of Fascist policies that Mussolini, Pinochet, and yes, even Hitler carried out. In this country (USA), we got rid of kings and centralized authority in the late 1700's. The founding fathers wisely created 3 branches of government, that while not exactly perfect, do offer a good system (at least on paper-this concept HAS been violated by the Bush Crime Family) of checks and balances. The Bush administration has consolidated extreme power in the executive branch, bringing our country closer to an authoritarian dictatorship or monarchy.
Free your mind: You are absolutely correct that many Conservatives will go on and on about freedom, but the only freedoms they seem to advocate are the rights to screw other people over, the rights of corporations to be unregulated (also screwing people over) and get handouts, the right of people to deny rights to people they don't like, and the right to own guns (the last one, I don't have a problem with overall). Most Liberals by contrast believe in an unfettered free press, free political speech, the seperation of church and state (recognition of faiths or lack of faiths that are not in the majority), a non-Orwellian society where people aren't under surveillance for no good reason, a just court system where guilt must be proven, and other rights guaranteed in our Constitution. Todays Conservatives will gladly give up our liberties because they are scared of that which they don't understand. They blindly follow the talking points of factually deficient talking heads like Limpballs, O'Reilly, and Hannity. Lately, someone who was influenced by these talking heads tried to kill people at a Unitarian Church because he thought they were too "liberal" and "pro gay". He hated liberals and was mad because he was losing his food stamps..go figure! The red state masses see their jobs go away, health care and other costs skyrocketing, their conversations listened to, their environment being contaminated due to underregulation, ect, ect, and they keep chanting "Thank you sir, may I have another-USA USA USA"!
Despite my disagreements, I will admit that this was a somewhat cleaver poll and has more intelligent arguments than those that most Conservatives have posted on this site.
I spent my life teaching kids that with rights you have responsibilities. If you are not prepared to live up to your responsibility you should be prepared to forego your rights.
I'm heartily sick of those who expect respect - it has to be earned.
I'm heartily sick of those who go on and on and on and on about their liberties but want to deny others theirs
And you are here to define My responsiblities for me? Are you doing nothing other than creating a class of people who should have no rights unless you grant them to them based on your own prejudices and values about what thier responsibilites SHOULD be? Are you not therefore one of "those who go on and on and on and on about their liberties but want to deny others theirs"?
In REAL LIFE there are constraints. It takes effort and work to produce, and no matter how much I would like to fly in the air, gravity is unlikely to allow me to do so.
You seem to be assuming anything is possible to Man, and man is in reality a very limited creature. Maybe someday we will have Star travel, cheap non-polluting power, replicators and transporters that render an enconomy of any sort moot. But until your la-la land of the Federation of Planets arrives, I am afraid that the constraints we labor under are real and force unpleasant tradeoffs. One of which the recongnition that there are certain people who will not produce but only take from others what they have made, and you believe that it is right to steal from someone what they have produced, just as Slave owners confiscated the product of a slaves labor for themselves. Morally there is no difference. Even primative tribes would not tolerate unproductive members.
