Ninja Poll 137: Euthanasia
Let's just kill everyone over 59 and the whole problem of old people is pretty much solved. 60 year olds are never happy anyways.

You young whippersnappers don't know nuthin! When I was your age.....ect, ect, we had to ....ect, ect...NOW GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAMN KIDS!!!!!
In all seriousness though, aren't you being a bit harsh? It's true that the older generations sort of messed things up for the younger people, but traditionally, elders were respected and revered due to their accumulated wisdom. I guess respect goes both ways though, and many older people aren't doing much to earn such respect these days. I know some pretty cool ol' geezers though. The media totally worships youth these days, and we all get old eventually. I think the trick is to always be fascinated with the world and take care of your health, even when young. A good sense of humor is also vital. I think these things prevent people from turning into old curmudgeons (love that word).
Am I being harsh?
No... No I'm not. It's that simple.
Sorry for the long resonpse, you won't believe how much I've had to think about that.
In those countries where euthanasia is legal there are still restrictions.
Patients have to have given their consent and have shown that they are competent to do so. In Holland euthanasia is carried out by the family GP. In Switzerland assisted deaths are carried out in private clinics. Euthanasia is only euthanasia when the patient makes a decision to end their life before they get to a point where the pain for them or their relatives is greater than they wish - they do not wish to go through the humiliating period of loved ones having to look after them, feed them, clean up their mess, watch them slowly deteriorate.
In the UK the court can decide, if a doctor advises, that a person who is brain dead can be allowed to die (they stop all medication and life support and remove feeding tubes) or if a patient has a living will which says that they do not wish to be revived or kept alive when they slip into unconciousness then doctors will not revive them or put them on life support. This is not euthanasia. Most of your examples therefore are not euthanasia.
Blackninja133: I hate to bring up an inevitable unpleasant fact, but you will get old too at some point.
I probably brought this up before, but this is a good time to bring it up again. Alot of younger people are eating such crappy diets and getting into even worse crap like Crystal Meth (I know this doesn't apply to you because you take care of yourself and don't do drugs) that they are often getting old very quickly. I know some 80 year olds that are healthier than alot of young people. It's kind of sad when you think about it.
