Is this wise to take away the name of God from our school teachings?

This is a biased poll

Could you please clarify what you mean by your usage of phrases such as small minority or minority religion? The three monotheistic faiths include the vast majority of the world's total population, but only a radical few have taken the extreme path of blowing other people up.

How many people do you think are actually christians/jews/muslims?

At the last census in Scotland, more than half the returns stated non christian/judeo/islamic religiojns, agnostic, atheist or humanist. Ergo a minority of Scots follow one of the judeo religions.

A recent study of churchgoers in the USA found that a majority of churchgoers did not actually believe in the fundamental parts of the religion but only attended because of the expectation on them to attend. Ergo most churchgoers in the USA are not actually christian either. Most admitted to being agnostics at best.

In almost all so called christian countries church attendance is dropping at a rather fast rate and churches of all denominations are reporting serious problems in recruiting suitable candidates for priesthood (and by almost I do mean almost and not all as some countries - notably in Africa and the old communist bloc - are seeing a revival in churchgoing in mainly the orthodox church in the communit bloc and the roman catholic and the presbeterian church in Africa)

More jews are turning away from orthodox church and dropping adherance to strict observance.

In arabic countries islam is strong and is growing in influence in the west - more in the USA than in any other country, although France and Britain are seeing large increases of their traditionally native population becoming muslims.

In Scotland there is an increase in celticism (a mixture of druid and wicca)

You following all this?

The Royal Navy had to set aside space on board their warships so that satanist members of crew can worship in their own way.

The fastest growing faith on the planet is the bahai faith, however humanism is growing at an even faster rate than any religion around the world.

Enough people claimed to be Jedi Knights for it to be recognised as a religion in the last British census.

To the maker of this poll:

Regarding question 1: Separation of religion from the public place is the law in the US. It is guaranteed by the 1st amendment. Separation of church and state is one of the reasons that the US is as strong as it is. All creeds have a free voice and no belief system can be allowed to be taught in preference to any other. If you want a theocracy, move to Iran.

Regarding question 2: The no choice seems to require acknowledging the existence of a creator. We can be and have been prosperous without recognizing something that does not exist.

Questions 3 and 4 are stupid questions. All of the answers lead to an argument for intelligent design or creationism, both rediculous ideas that have been repeatedly refuted and rejected in court.

An Arizona Kid's Prayer

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore Because the word "God" is mentioned... . A kid in Arizona wrote the attached

NEW School prayer : Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen

Not only those who do not believe in god (such as the agnostics, atheists and humanists) are offended but those who believe in the same god but a different interpretation of that god or even those who believe in a totally different god or gods are offended if the bible is used.

How would you feel if the day started with a call to prayer by a shi'ite mullah on a monday, a rabbii on a tuesday, a sikh priest on a wednesday, a wiccan priestess on a thursday and finally a black mass on a friday. OK not all the same god but we still have missed out bhai, celticism, hindu, sunnni muslims, shinto, buddhist, parsee, zoroastrianists, pagans (yes there are - and their numbers are growing) and, of course, christians - then there's the problem - catholic (which catholic - jesuite, franciscan and about twenty others), methodist (and there are several different methodist churches all bickering over which one is right), presbeterian (ordinary presbeterian, united free presbeterian, free presbeterian), episcopalian (high church, orthodox episcopalian or low church - pro gay, anti gay, pro women priests, anti women priests), bretheren (plymouth bretheren, orthodox bretheren), pentacostal (how many of those are there?), evangelical (yes, I know they are all supposed to be evangelical but some churches actually call themselves evangelical) and then there's the quakers, mormons, jehovah's witnesses and shakers as well as all the other sects which are nominally christian.

How can USA be one country under god when not all citizens believe in the same god or don't believe at all. How can a public school system impose one god on those who worship another. How on earth can the ten commandments - "thou shalt have no other god before me for the lord they god is a jealous god (and what's he got to be jealous about if he's the one and only by the way?) - and will not have a god worshipped before me" (does that mean you can worship another god after you've worshipped him?) be forced down the throats of those who reject christ. How can a country which separated church and state get itself into such a fankle (mess, tangle).

"It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong" as if the bible is the only source of right and wrong - don't be so daft! Have you read it properly - it's full of contradiction and hypocracy. Genesis 1 doesn't even agree with genesis 2 - how bad a start is that?
