Who was the most murderous leader in recent History?

Truman

What about Truman? All the others killed more people, but it took much more time. Truman's atomic bombing killed a million people in a few seconds.

Thank you for your suggestion. Many would argue than Truman was just finishing the war that Hitler and the Japanese started, therefore responsibility falls on them. Granted, some of the actions of the allies (like the carpet bombing of japanese and german cities) could easily be considered war crimes. The atom bombs however, according to most sources, instantly killed 220.000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not one million people. For all the above i did not consider Truman to be even in the same league as the others.

Oops. I was wrong. It was around 200,000 people, not a million. I wonder how I got that number. :/

Anyway, I don't think responsibility falls on germany and japan. If you want to use that logic, even they aren't to blame, as Hitler never would of rose to power if it wasnt for the weimar constitution. And you can't blame that, because it wouldnt of happened if not for WW1. And you cant blame that, because etc. The same goes for Japan and what has caused its atrocities.

Germany and Japan may of provided the fuse, but Truman is the one that lit it.

Rachel92:

Technically, you may have been right the first time. Although around 200,000 were initially killed by the blasts, tons more were killed by complications directly resulting from the radiation.

Lets not forget how many lives were saved by dropping the bombs. Because of "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" we never had to storm the heavily fortified beaches of Japan. That would have been a whole lot worse than Normandy. Yes the bombs were a terrible thing and I hope nuclear weapons are never used again. However they did end the war right away and the U.S. received an unconditional surrender saving hundreds of thousands of American and Japanese lives.
