Back in 1915 there was a case in Honolulu. A Chinese man was found to have Inchi or opium residue in his apartment. His defense was that it was part of his culture. The court found for the defendant. This case is the basis for the concept of community standards. I came across this case back in the 70's while I was studying legal research and had too much spare time. Since then I have not been able find any instance of people in this country dealing opium or using it although opium can be found in many foreign countries which would make it possible to smuggle it in to this country. I "clubbed" at Paradiso, a legendary nightclub in Amsterdam. The top floor had dealers and a room just like an opium den. You know, with giant shelves so one could lay down when high. If I had the money I would build something it like it in my house. As long as you do not use opium in such a set up a private opium den would be great . Also, if you have to live in anarea with high apartment rents An opium den would make it possible to squeeze more people into an apartment.
