Everyone: Do you belive in "God"? (Poll by blackninja133)

The choices:

This was a good poll but my views would be a bit more extensive. I chose the option that "we'll never know", but in reality my views are that of a Spiritual Atheist. Huh? What the hell is that? A Spiritual Atheist is someone who rejects the idea of a supernatural God or the idea of a supreme being that most people picture as being a gigantic white man sitting somewhere up in the sky on a large, comfy throne, with beautiful female angels floating around him with rings over their heads. When asked "Do you believe in God", I would generally say "no" because I don't believe in intelligent design, creationism, or that some "God" separate from our universe created and controls everything. The evidence seems to be against this theory, as most events thought to be "supernatural" can be explained by science. I strongly believe in evolution, scientific theories and according to a poll I once took, I'm an existentialist. I think humans have control over our world, but I also believe in a spiritual connection between everything in the universe. It's important to note, however, that there is a big difference between this and believing in something above and beyond the universe--the creator of the universe, if you will. I don't think there's a supreme creator, but I do think that everything in the universe is dependent and intertwined, henceforth, the spiritual connection I feel. I guess I consider myself a Jewish Buddhist of sorts, but I have respect for the Christian half of my family--I have respect for all branches and sects of religions, so long as they don't enforce their views on others. I guess that makes me a little bit unitarian universalist as well.

I looked your site, and I will add this. I'm an atheist. I politly declined the invitation to be a spirtial atheist, as I don't think there is any sprit, ever.

Hey, adk, or anyone else who is a spirtal athiest, here's a Question: According to Spiritual Atheism, Where do you go when you die?

I recently read a magazine article about the decline of Catholicism in Ireland. A man in his late 30s was interviewed who said that he did not take part in organised religion, but said he still felt spirituality was important in his life: "I'm still a spiritual person. I communicate with an inner energy force that I call God. If I can get that connection without going to church, then why bother?"

Is this something similar to spiritual atheism?

I don't think so. Atheists tend to be against god-belief in general, not organized religion. My guess is that spiritual atheism has more to do with seeing beauty in the cosmos or something like that.
